Half the internet – mostly either enraged feminists or male computer nerd perves – stayed up past their bedtime last night to see what the creators of the website at emmayouarenext.com were going to do at midnight. How dare someone threaten to release nude photos of Emma Watson, and ANNOUNCE IT IN ADVANCE. Well, as it turns out, it was actually an elaborate “Rickroll”. Although the page displayed right at midnight was promoting a company called “Rantic”, soon after another site appeared declaring a campaign to shut down 4Chan, promoting the use of the hashtag #shutdown4chan. It will be interesting to see what the anon/4chan/hacker/scriptkiddie world will do in response. If the HBGary fiasco was any indication, Rantic is in for a rough ride.
